Vertical Slice in Progress


Previously I talked about how I had completed the initial prototype for the game. So now I am building the “vertical slice”. So, what is the vertical slice?

The easiest way to think of it is this: My prototype was a “five minutes of fun” slice of the game. It had the core ideas but was kind of unpolished. The vertical slice is the “hour of fun”.

So this ends up fleshing out a lot more of the systems and ends up being far more polished and deep. It isn’t just the single moment of the core loop of the game, but a solid chunk of what the game really will be like in the end.


Just Purkey Games in the Press! AKA The Bee Story


You may have noticed that I told a story about the Skyrim intro and bees and it kind of exploded. I’m glad people liked hearing that story! I’ll have to find a new story to tell people about games at parties now. :P

I’m pretty certain I will never see quite so many bee memes again. :)

So When Are You Announcing?


So an obvious question at this point is “So when are you announcing what you’re actually doing?” Let’s dive into that. :)

Basically, when it comes to letting people know about your game, there’s two points in time that are by far the biggest. That is announcing your game and releasing your game.

So I would love to talk about the game, but at the same time I want to make sure that announcement has as big of an impact as it can. So I want this vertical slice to be further along so that people can really understand what this game is about and how fun it can be. The good news is, that’s exactly what I’m working towards right now.

As soon as it gets to that point, I will announce it. I won’t be waiting until two months before launch or something to announce. Don’t worry. :)

Oh and I still need a name. So there’s that. :D
